Diep Flap reconstruction

Hi there,

I'm now 3 and a bit years post diagnosis of Triple Negative Breast Cancer Stage 3 and looking to have reconstructive surgery.  

I've done a bit of reading about the different kinds of procedures available and I breast surgeon and I believe the Trans Flap or the Diep flap are the better options for me and I'm 57 and really don't won't to have perky breast would just love to have my cleavage back again.

Just wondering if anyone can shed any light on any procedures they have had and also what the out of pocket costs were roughly for private patients.

Another reason for favouring the Trans flap is I will also be rid of my belly that I have tried to loose without success.  There has to be some positives in all this :-)

I'm on the Gold Coast so if anyone has seen any of the surgeons there I would love to know your thoughts.  I currently have an appoint ment booked for 24 March with a Dr Craig Laytt.

    Hi Julie I had a DIEP recon last year. My mastectomy was 30 years ago and have had 2 implants since then. I love my new boob, its soft,warm and a good shape. We were around $15000 out of pocket. The 2 PS were $5000 each out of pocket. I do love the result

    Hi Julie, I had a left nipple sparing mastectomy with immediate silicone implant reconstruction last August.
    I am also on the Gold Coast and was looked after by Daniel deViana from Breastcare.  He did a brilliant job.  He is a breast cancer surgeon as well as a breast reconstruction/cosmetic surgeon. It's always good to get a couple of opinions so add him to your list.  He is a genuinely lovely man who took all the time needed to make sure I understood everything.  Wishing you all the best with your decision.  Jane xx

    Thanks Melinda, I've asked to join the Reconstruction Group and waiting for approval.  I was being very naive thinking that it wasn't going to cost too much for this procedure.  May have to relook at things.  Good luck with your surgery :-) xx

    @Julesdenis hello there! Im having a Mastectomy and Diep Flap reconstruction in a weeks time in Melbourne. Im ER+ only and had a recurrence in 2015 at my 4yr mark. Ive always been a private patient the past 6 years HOWEVER. My Surgeon also works through public as does a plastic Surgeon he works closely with. So I saw him late last year and they have both said to put me through the public system, Im Category 1 due to recurrence eventhough I am healthy and clear now its preventative. So due to christmas I opted for Category 2 which was 90 days and well here we are. If I went private through the plastic surgeon even with health cover my out of pocket was approx. $10,000. Ummm NO THANKS! I trust my Surgeon implicitly the past 6yrs so know Im in good hands. If you join the Reconstruction Group here on the forum, you'll have access to Photo Stories. Ive found it so very helpful!! plus the Plastic Surgeon stepped through the whole thing too and showed before and after photos. Good Luck Melinda xo
