Chemo, herceptin, surgery

Hi all, have been reading everyones post wasn't sure if I wanted to put up a post.

So here goes.

I have had  2 surgeries, chemo. and having herceptin, now booked for  a mastectomy and recontruction for the 19/8/14.

Terrifed of the what is to come, as I can see everyone else feels the same.

  • Great advice Beryl.

I was just thinking of my travels.  By all means take the pain killers.  We do not need to put up with pain these days following surgery with all the wonderful drugs available but dare I say just watch out for constipation. Drinks lots of water, keep moving and use further drugs to keep things moving if necessary just be patient for them to work though.

Yukky subject but I am sure many can relate to where I am coming from.

    Luv always, Mich xoxoxo

  • Hi Rowdy,

guess you've had surgery by now.

Take the pain killers! Do the physiotherapy they recommend!

Accept all offers of help and let people know when you want to be on your own.

My friends and sister organised a roster and it was like having a week long sleep over.

If you have had a general anaesthetic be prepared for lapses in memory and concentration for a few weeks. They don't tell you this but if you know about it then you don't stress when you can't remember where to put the milk ;)

I asked a friend with a gentle touch to rub body lotion onto my arms - relaxing.

Another friend helped me take a shower.

I hope everything has been ok.

    Beryl C.

  • Hey Rowdy

A GREAT BIG WELCOME TO YOU.

How you going huny?.  You have been through so much already and still more to go.  I am sorry I have not seen your post earlier as I would have popped online sooner.

How did you cope with the chemo and how are you going with the herceptin?

I wish you well with your surgery.  Which hospital will you be having it in? What state do you live in?

I have an amazing BCNA bestie who I met through the online network nearly 3 years ago now and she had to have a double mastectomy due to 6 tumors in both breasts etc.   She has decided not to have reconstruction.  I am sure if I was in yours and her situation I would also want reconstruction.  She lives in Sydney and I am in Perth but we still communicate every single day if not once sometimes a lot more in all different way.  Thank god for technology :-)

My whole BC journey became complicated after treatment so I still feel I am wanting to be here for luvly pink sisters like yourself and let you know you are not alone.  It is okay to be scared as you are going through more of the unknown and I think that is the scary part - the unknown.

I am sure you have a wonderful medical team by your side and I am hoping you have lots of love and support around you.  You now have extra love and support from me which I am more than happy to give.

Have you joined the breast reconstruction group on here which is also amazing.  I joined when I thought I would be having the same as what you are having but things are a bit complicated for me so I haven't been a part of that luvly group lately.  They will be able to help, assist, advice and support you as well.

I will be thinking of you tomorrow and sending you wonderful warm healing hugs to help you through.

Let me know how you go won't you.

    Luv always, Mich xoxoxooxoxoxxoxo
