Breast Reconstruction Options Have Been Xpanded

Hiya girls, Jane221 and I have had the opportunity to meet Scott Dodson, CEO of AirXpanders and his team to chat about how they think their new device will help to break down some barriers to breast reconstruction in Australia. We also chatted with Dr Fred Clarke and our very own Alison who is undergoing this surgery in just a few weeks.

While many women, mostly involved in a trial, are already using this devise, it is now going to be widely available to all women across Australia.

This is also our first story researched and written by the wonderful Jane221 who is a facilitator of the Breast Reconstruction Online Group and lends her writing skills to Reclaim Your Curves.

You can read the story here Breast Reconstruction Options Have Been Xpanded

  • Hi Louie

I'm back again after - not sure..close to a year. I hope you're keeping well...I've had my bilateral Diep and a revision..waiting another four weeks to see my PS to see what he says...bit odd in size still but I think there is still swelling..anyway..now its a new looking site I can't find how to see photo stories.  Can you please tell me how to access them as I would like to see some ops similar to mine as a caparison.  Many thanks and be well.

  • Hi Tracey and Vickimarie, it is exciting to see some innovation in the area of breast reconstruction and happily, there seems to be more and more happening all the time, so keep your eye on the breast reconstruction group pages! Hopefully these innovations mean there will be many more options for reconstruction available to women all over Australia, and that those choices bring with them improvements such as quicker operating times, less complications, faster post operative recovery and great aesthetic outcomes - which would all go a long way to improving the reconstruction experience for lots of us :-)  Jane xx

  • I have just finished reconstruction with the saline expanders! My Dr. here in Adelaide has just told me about the air ones, wish I had known about them earlier, I would have waited until they were available! I had a leaky valve in my expander and the saline went into my body, apparently there is no problem with that! They thought they would have to put another expander in but may be able to fit the permanent implant in. Luckily I got the permanent implant but it was very tight for the first month and I have had some cording & tight muscle problems from it. I can see that the air expanders would most probably alleviate the problems I have had.

    Regards Vickimarie
