Thanks for sharing @arpie, this is an important warning for those considering having implant surgery that there is a very rare (but still possible) risk of developing Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (ALCL), especially with highly textured implants. There are grades of textured implants and the less textured seem to be better. As far as I'm aware, smooth implants don't seem to carry the same risk. It's good to see that there looks like there will be further investigation of the issue.
I also thought it was compulsory for surgeons to notify the Breast Device Registry when implants are placed, so that doctors (and more importantly, patients) can be notified if there is a problem / recall, so this at least could be done. Women also need to be fully informed of the risks and told what to look out for - some surgeons are great at outlining all the risks and providing information for their patients. It would be great if they all did.
