EC chemo fortnightly for 8 weeks

Hi Ladies. Just wondering if any other ladies are on the same chemo as me and if so... how are you going.   I will then have weekly chemo for 12 weeks of Paclitaxel and 12 mths of Herceptin. I am finding it difficult as I dont know anyone else with breast cancer that I can talk about side effects  etc. Any suggestions ladies??. Thanks Airlie

  • Hi Angie pardon my ignorance but what are cold caps Paula
  • Hi Angie, wow that is so great that you have worked through out the chemo. Did you start with 2 weekly EC.?

I had my first treatment last wed. Had to go to the hospital thurs night due to glowing like a beacon on my face and chest. Very hot to touch. They hadn't seen a reaction like that before. GP mon with oral thrush and mouth ulcers. Even though I was rinsing with salt water.

They do say we all react differently. You must be pleased how you have traveled so far. X thanks angie.

  • Arlie my treatment is similar to yours. I'm doing taxol for 12 weeks and every third week it gets combined with herceptin. Once taxol finishes I will move on to herceptin for another 9 months, to give a full year of herceptin. I had a baseline heart check before I started treatment and will have one after every 4th herceptin, so I'm due one soon.

im currently on taxol number 9, so only have 3 more to go.

im using cold caps and have retained my hair through treatment, it has thinned but nothing too obvious

I have been working thoughtout, i do a 4 day week and I've occasionally have worked from home too

my side effects have been quite tolerated, my most annoying being altered taste buds, dry mouth and metallic taste.

best of luck with it and I hope your experience will be similar Ito mine

of the 7 day cycle I have 2 days where side effects are niggly, the other days I'm ok.

when is your first treatment ?
