New knitting obsession

Hello ladies, I'm new to this creative corner and thought I'd share my latest crafty obsession.

Six weeks ago I decided on a whim to learn how to knit. Thanks to YouTube, some bamboo needs and a yarn sale at Spotlight, an obsession was born!

Surrounded by crafty BCNA staff I'm now also venturing into the world of crochet. Below is a picture of a couple of knitting projects I've just finished. A pair of fingerless gloves for my sister and a cuddly baby blanket for a friend.

Hi Janelle, well done, you've done well there, especially amazing for first items made. Have a look on Ravelry, it's a site with knitting and crochet patterns, some free, others are available for purchase. Lots of cool ideas. I 've just started again, good for resting after my rad treatment at the moment. My girls have requested hats with bear or fox ears for all 5 grandchildren. Might have to second my mum to help with that many.

Thanks MaresW, Alyson & Tonya. I'm pretty excited about the end product myself :) Thanks for the suggestion of Ravelry MaresW. I have found my way onto there and have stocked up some patterns for when I'm feeling REALLY ambitious. Like you I've started getting requests which is very flattering but I'm not sure I'm up to it on the larger scale. But what a great distraction. One of my friends has just broken her foot so is using crochet as a distraction from being stuck on the couch. Time certainly seems to vanish when at the needles (or hooks :).

Tonya, the crochet is proving a little more complicated for me but I'm determined to give it a good go. The website I found that gave me really good basic instructions for both knitting and crochet is http://newstitchaday.com/. It has some great videos and instructions I can actually understand. I remember watching my grandmother crochet when I was a kid and she did it at lightening speed.

Clever you!  Love the fingerless gloves.   Also -- my mum taught me to crochet when I was little, so if you get stuck give me a shout (I might remember some of it ;).
