Hello,

My name is Laurie Kienlen, and I am a Master’s of Social Work (MSW) student at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

If you own a dog and have undergone chemotherapy treatments for breast cancer, would you be willing to answer a few questions? I am currently conducting a study about dog ownership and breast cancer.

Specifically, I am trying to learn if and how a woman’s relationship with her dog changes as she undergoes chemotherapy treatments. Further, is  recovery and healing affected by dog ownership?

Owning a dog can have a significant effect on a cancer survivor’s emotional and physical health. My goal is to try to understand these effects, so we can educate others and help them more successfully navigate this journey. I hope the information we gather will help doctors, nurses, and other health practitioners better support women with breast cancer.

Are you interested in participating in this study? After I gather all my research, I would be happy to share my findings with you.

If you’d like to share your perspective, please email me at lauriekienlen@**** for additional details. Thank you so much – I really appreciate your willingness to contribute to the knowledge about living with and surviving this disease!

Sincerely,

Laurie Kienlen
