Slow Dance

Slow Dance
This is a poem written by a terminally ill young girl with cancer,
in a New York Hospital.

Have you ever watched kids
On a merry-go-round?
Or listened to the rain
Slapping on the ground?
Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight?
Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?

You better slow down.
Don't dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won't last.

Do you run through each day on the fly?
When you ask, ‘How are you?’
Do you hear the reply?
When the day is done do you lie in your bed
With the next hundred chores
Running through your head?

You'd better slow down
Don't dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won't last.

Ever told your child, ‘We'll do it tomorrow?’
And in your haste, not see his sorrow?
Ever lost touch, let a good friendship die
Cause you never had time to call and say, 'Hi'

You'd better slow down.
Don't dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won't last.

When you run so fast to get somewhere
You miss half the fun of getting there.
When you worry and hurry through your day,
It is like an unopened gift, thrown away.
Life is not a race. Do take it slower.
Hear the music, before the song is over.

This was in an email sent to me by a friend. I just feel it is so important to slow down and take time to smell the roses. AND... I don't want to waste energy continually worrying about the cancer coming back. The doctors are doing all they can to help ensure that it doesn't! When our time is up, it's up! Could be a car accident or anything really. I want to spend each day living, not worrying about dying. That happens to all of us eventually. It is so much harder though when someone's time is up waaaaay too soon. Like this young girl.....

That is beautiful Erica.  I now have a completely different outlook on life and sad to say I have BC to thank for that.

I need to pass that poem on to my sister whose husband has just had a stroke.  Their life has always been at a running pace and I guess they will have to slow down a bit now whether they want to or not or her husband will anyway while she continues to be superwomen.

I am glad I take it slow, glad I take time to smell all the beautiful roses and read all the beautiful emails and posts that we receive.

I agree with you how unfair it is that such a beautiful young girls life has to be cut short so soon.

Thank you very much for sharing with us.

    Lots of love, Mich xoxoxo
