Ready for therapy

Hi All,

I'm preparinig to start radiotherapy on Thursday and I'm looking forward to the good burn!

High grade DCIS diagnosed from WLE surgery and I'm getting on with it.

I have struggled with endometriosis most of my menstral life and I am finding this dibiltating chronic disease has prepared me well for BC - has anyone else had this experience?

  • Not had endometriosis but have a friend who's had it since her teens, so I know it's rather horrible. All the best with the 'burn', the only benefit I found was the temporary tan, all be it in only a small patch.

  • Thanks for your insight Marie, I'm hoping for a little more preventative effect and not cosmetic and don't mind a bit of tan but I won't know for many years if it has worked.  As for the endo it has prepared me well for this onslaught - I have learned the lesson well and am able to attack this latest challenge with a lot more awareness and clear preceptiion of the implications of treatments.

  • Yep have had endometriosis but still had 4 kids

now ABC I have always wondered if there was a connection

hope you do well with the rads Ive just had 10 days 6wks ago

    hugs

  • Oh no, not me for rads, that was 14 years ago. I'm a 15 yr survivor, no looking back, something I wish on all others affected. Only problem I now have is waking my 5 daughters up to the fact that there might not have been a history, but now there is! I'm not history so to speak, and yet I've begun a history, which has been followed last year by a cousin the same age as me, I was 40 at diagnosis, she was 54. Two of my daughters are vigilant, 3 think like I did 15 years ago - it only happens to others. I pray they'll all be spared.  Take care Cherub.

  • Good to know someone else has come through endo and survived well cherub.  I've had 2 children in early 20's and diagnosed with endo in 30's - lost an ovary and tube but held on to the rest.  I had hormaone therapy approx. every 3 years after surgery for 6-9 months.  Anyone know if there may be a link.  I really wonder if being treated wholistically, as a whole person and not this part and that would make a difference to the overall outcome.  Now for BC - I wonder if all the hormone therapy for endo has influenced my now having BC?

I am on my 3rd day of radiotherapy, definitely feel the difference, tender and painful but no outside effects - I find I have difficulty when I have some pressure on that breast by mistake e.g. bump or lie on it through the night.  Now I have to be careful about my bone density as my levels are already at Osteopenia and I need to have a fusion on my spin done soon.  I am feeling positive though because I know it is working when I have a reaction.  I have 22 more days to go!

I hope you have recovered well cherub and thank you for your kind words and hugs.

Thank you also Marie for your words of support and good 'Relay for Life' to you.
