Finding out

When I found the lump, I waited. My son was 14 months old and I was still breast feeding and I had experienced about 6 bouts of mastitis so I thought it was a blocked duct.

And when my GP felt it, he thought it was nothing. But he is a cautious man and sent me for a second opinion anyway. And when my surgeon felt it, she thought it was nothing and sent me for a biopsy anyway. And even the doctor who did the biopsy thought it was nothing.

So when it was time to get my results, my husband asked if I wanted him to take time off work to come with me and I said (can you guess?), "No, it's nothing."

When I found out I was alone. That kind of kills me really. Inside I think I knew it was something but I trusted everyone else's opinion. If I think back to that now, that was probably one of the loneliest points of my existence - finding out alone.

It's good to write here, to know I am not alone. There are so many wonderful women on this forum who have gone through and are going through so much more than me and they are brave, strong, positive and wonderful.

I am really looking forward to getting to know you all.

  • God, you poor thing, being alone when told the news. And you are so young too. Well, you have done well so far! But how are those tablets? I am dreading being advised to go on tablets. Could you open up some of your profile info? Can;t see much.  Best Wishes, Lyn from Brisbane xx
