Hi! Welcome to the forum
You mentioned surgery- what type are you having? Links above are from the BCNA website and may help with deeper understanding
Early days we feel we are learning a new language with types and pathology results and treatment plans
Take a deep breath and enjoy the family and weekend as the 29th is nearly here
Best wishes
Take care1 -
Wishing you all the best for your surgery next week, @mumto6kids. I hope you have good support at home, as assuming you DO have 6 kids, you may well need it over Xmas & into the new year xxYes, It is a real shock when you get a BC diagnosis …. A bit like a cricket bat to the head, actually - and all the emotions you’ve probably felt, are totally normal - anger, fear, disbelief …. If you find it a bit overwhelming, give our helpline a buzz (Mon-Fri 9-5) on 1800 500 258 - sometimes it just helps when you can chat to someone who ISN’T too close to you xx.
Have you been assigned a Breast Care Nurse yet? They should become your first port of call for any queries (or whack it up here too, & we may be able to help you too xx.). We’ve ’been there, done that’ .. so know exactly how you are feeling xx
You can read up on the forum a bit here - lots of tips (eg what to take to with you to hospital …. Front opening PJs etc) and we even have a couple of funny threads, as we all need a laugh now & then xx. Also - there are some ‘tick sheets’ to see how you are going physically and emotionally …. You can fill them in & take them with you as it can be easier giving them the list, than talking about it (I’d just get emotional!) …

Take each day as it comes - accept ANY help that is offered to you xx

Wishing you all the best for 29th @mumto6kids.
Not sure if it was the same for you but I found the initial uncertainty associated with the scans and testing a bit of a struggle, so good on you for getting through a big milestone. I now appreciate, having finished my treatment last April, how the testing and waiting process really informs the targetted treatment of HER2 positive breast cancer. I was HER2 positive, as were a few others on this forum, so please do sing out if you have any questions about the treatment for that type!
I found there’s some amazingly wise folk here 🌸🌻who have been wonderful in supporting us.1 -
@mumto6kids .. Great that your kids are all adults …. Line them up for different jobs that may need doing whilst you are recovering xx ….. the mowing, the washing & hanging out of clothes & other things (no reaching up into high cupboards or getting heavy stuff out of low ones ….). Also as taxi driver til the surgeon says you can drive xx. And NO picking up grandkids!
I can still remember the feeling of relief, waking up after the surgery, just knowing that it was GORN! Xx
We have a ‘private’ group for Triple Positive members, where you can chat openly about your treatment & surgery … in total privacy … if you’d like to join, click on this link & then on ‘join’ and the Mods should sign you up tomorrow xx
