Good evening everyone…4 years on letrozole anothe 3 to go…for those finished letrozole did your hair grow back to normal and how long did it take? My hair is thinning out on top, 🥲
Thank @Hendrix. We I guess we will both find out. I was on tamoxifen for 20 months until side effects got too much. I have been on Letrozole for 2 months and have another 3 yrs and 2 months to go. Whose counting. Thanks again for letting me know.
Hi @Cath62 the question I asked him was will my hair go back to how it was before letrozole. He said if the thinning is caused from letrozole it should…he also said that any side effects from letrozole improve over time.. I have another 3 years to find out. I can see the thinning started 12 months after I started letrozole and I’ve noticed last 6 months it’s thinner. I’ve been on letrozole for 4 years now 🙃
I am interested in what your oncologist says about how common hair thinning is on Letrozole @Hendrix. I started taking it 2 months ago. I do have so m e thinning post chemo on the sides of head. Hoping no more.
@Pommy I don’t think it’s uncommon I’ve heard from a few women that their hair has thinned out from hormone blockers @Afraser I will ask my oncologist tomorrow regarding letrozole and hair thinning and let you know what he says
As far as I know it’s possible but not common, at least not to a critical degree. As I said, I had a shift in shedding which may have been caused by chemo, may have been caused by Letrozole or by something entirely different (some believe there is a seven year cycle in what affects your scalp). Neither my GP nor dermatologist cited Letrozole as the cause, chemo possibly.
@BlackWidow no my hair grew back pretty much normal after chemo, a year out from letrozole I noticed the thinning…I have oncologist appointment this week…will ask him and hopefully he tells me what I want to hear lol that it will grow back
Female pattern baldness is unfortunately a thing, usually post menopause and it can be genetic. When I started losing more hair than usual when brushing, I went the rounds of hairdresser, GP and dermatologist and learned that it’s quite common. Luckily I don’t have it (yet!). I didn’t know that shedding patterns can suddenly change either although chemo may have been a partial reason. Just more stuff!
@Hendrix, my hair is thinning on top. My mother always had beautiful thick hair. Thinking back, my paternal grandmother thinned on top. Is this a family thing or simply a matter of age ?
