I have concerns about the way the media represents cancer. Online articles often refer to cancer sufferers. Recently I read an article about a person going through cancer treatment who uses expensive alternative medicines and depicted stage 4 cancer as ‘a death sentence’. I wonder how people feel about the media’s portrayal of people with cancer as victims. I find it a bit hard to take.

I get far more pissed off being referred to as a bed number in hospital. On a recent admission, I heard two nurses discussing their upcoming tea break, (loudly, in the corridor outside my room). "Oh I just have to do my obs on bed 28, then I have to get 30 into a chair, then I'll take my break". Well I was in bed 28 and when she came in and asked for my arm to take my BP, I commented that I thought she was going to take the bed's BP, temp, pulse and so on. She looked at me as if I'd lost my marbles and said that no, she wanted to take my obs.I sarcastically replied that I'd specifically heard her saying that she was going to take bed 28's obs, and that although I was lying in said bed, I was in fact "name name" and that I was not a number. I had decided to speak my mind as this particular nurse had been very abrupt to the point of rudeness to me on quite a few occasions previously.
