Gold Coast Surgeons

Hi everyone,

I was diagnosed last year with BC and had a lumpectomy.  I didn't do radiation as I want to be genetically tested first. As it turns out  I test positive to the Chek2 gene and have made the decision to have a double mastectomy with immediate reconstruction. My mum passed away 6 years ago from BC.

I saw my BS and he didn't really fill me with confidence, so I got a referral for another BS but she wont see me as it is a conflict of interest with her Colleague (how unprofessional).  She told me perhaps to look at the Gold Coast.

Can anybody recommend a Plastic surgeon on the gold coast?

My surgeon was Danielle Ghusn. She did my lumpectomy and lymph node removal. She operates at Pindara private and John Flynn private, both on the gold coast. She is amazing! I am so glad I went to her. She is a great surgeon and a lovely person. You are obviously having a completely different operation. She may do that but if not she would probably steer you in the direction of someone who does. Good luck with your surgery.

My breast surgeon was Daniel de Viana, at Breastcare in Southport, in the Premion Building.  I could not speak highly enough of him, before during and after surgery.  My operation - double mastectomy - was done at Pindara Private Hospital and I had no pain or complications and was home in 4 days.  I chose not to have reconstruction but you have the option.
Best of luck.  (Premion also has chemo, oncology and radiation all under the same roof, with pathology and imaging as well.  It is a brilliant facility with wonderful specialists/surgeon.)

Hi @Rosierosie, I was interested in what gene test you had done. Was it the meducare subsidised one? Or was it a  broader screening one that you paid for yourself? I recently had the Medicare funded one done recently but came up negative for all,  despite BC in 2005, 2009 and again in May this year. I had Mx left side in 09, and right side Mx in May. I havent had reconstruction done. It's an issue I have struggled with. I am full of admiration for the ladies here who have done so and shared their experiences to help others. I hope you find a good surgical team.
