Voting outing, how did every one get on?

How did every one get on with the voting yesterday?

Since my hubby was one of the staff up there, he had the car and my son and I had to walk up to vote. Its only about as far in distance as I walk the dogs and it was a beautiful sunny but not hot day. I put on a shirt with 3/4 sleeves to keep the sun off and wore my big straw sun hat as I haven't grown a lot of hair back yet. I didn't wear a bra or a fake boob but the shirt I had sort of sat out off my remaining boob and didn't look like I alarmingly only have one. I put on some makeup which is pretty rare for me and although a bit self conscious I felt pretty good.

I went in, and did the voting thing. How long was that senate paper?! On the way home I remembered I still had my big hat on and hadn't taken it off in the voting rooms. Oh well, I didn't have to worry then about having little hair. No one stared or anything so I must look acceptable to the public eye. Kewl.

It was really cold here so I was rugged up with a beanie on...with my son who wears a beanie anyway. I was pleased I didn't  have to discuss my cancer treatment with anyone whilst out. Makes a change. And the senate paper was really difficult to vote on due to the length. ..felt like it was part of a candid camera moment. I couldn't  find half the parties as it was printed quite small despite its size...and some party names just seemed plain ridiculous.

I was determined to avoid the vrowds so like in past years I headed out at 5:30pm knowong there would be nonody left outside chasing me with sausages, chockies, lollies or for that matter bits of paper telling me how to vote.

It was cold and potch black so everyone was counting down the sevonds until they would go home so they found me in the register quickly, tossed the voting papers at me and happily did notnbother me when Inchucked them into the ballot box...

Happy happy girl plannong to stick to this strategy for future elections ??

I voted some days before Saturday so I could avoid the crowds and queues.  Much easier.  The lady simply asked did I have a valid reasons to vote early and I said yes.

There was a massive line when we first went, so went back two hours later to find the line slightly shorter. As has happened every recent election, I run into various people I know through my kids' schooling years, many of whom work for the AEC each election. I knew the school mum poking the votes into the boxes, and at first she didn't quite recognise me because I probably look the sickest now that I ever have (no eyebrows/lashes). She did a double take when she saw my beanie (I have just about no hair still, being 6th of 12 Taxol after 4 AC chemos), and made an awkward comment along the lines of "Keeping your head warm Jane?". I could have told her, because she obviously thought I looked sick, but, hey, I was feeling mean, so I left her wondering. Plus, we  have more to worry about on election day than whether Jane has cancer or not!!!!!

Hope you are going well Brenda, I'm still trying to work out what the "public eye" expects of me when I go out re makeup/fake boobs etc. Usually my laziness wins out!

    Hi all,

Polling day was the day after my 4th weekly paclitaxel treatment so I was feeling crap and cold. Met a well meaning ex colleague who proceeded to tell me about his mum who had 3 run-ins with cancer and has passed away! As I am going through a ' what if I am one of the ones that don't get through this?' Patches this was not helpful!

Luckily a long afternoon sleep and a new day with sunshine have restored my positive attitude!

Look after yourselves and find something to smile about!
