A true breast cancer story expressed through Cartoons
Hi Everyone
It’s Anna here from the BCNA Cultural Diversity program. I want to share a wonderful initiative by Magalie Lameloise. Magalie was first diagnosed at age 33, she was new Mum living in Australia away from her family and friends in France. She found it difficult to find information that was easy to read and free from all the medical jargon.
Growing up Magalie enjoyed reading comic books and after her diagnosis her husband suggested she start drawing her breast cancer experience and post the comics online. Magalie did just that and women from around the world started following her blog.
She hoped to publish a book from her comics to share with women across the world and managed to raise enough money to print her comic book titled ‘And then I had breast cancer’ in both English and French - which she now provides to women for free.
Magalie uses her drawings, simple language and humour to share her story from finding a lump, to being diagnosed, to undergoing treatment and making decisions about her fertility, while juggling life in between. Magalie hopes her books will reduce stigma around breast cancer and raise awareness in the community.
These books are great for those newly diagnosed, young women, women with low English language skills and women who prefer to receive information with images.
If you are interested in receiving a FREE copy of the book you can either email me at ahiggs@bcna.org.au with your name and postal address or you can view Magalie’s Blog here- http://magsblog.com/
