Seeking friends
Hi All,
I live in Brisbanes western suburbs and looking to met up with other women for friendship. I've had breast cancer twice in 9 years. The last one was 2013 with a mastectomy and chemotherapy, previously I had a lumpectomy and radiation. After having the surgery , I lost all contact with previous friends, I was visited once by one in August 2013 and never heard from the other one, not even a phone call till this day. In October last year I had a TRAM flap reconstruction and 2 weeks ago had breast reduction and lift on the other side. Even though I do keep busy and have relatives over the border I do get lonely at times. If anyone would like to meet up that would be wonderful. Thanks

Hi sorry I live in Melbourne, it can be lonely. Have you looked to see if you have a support group in your area. I'm sure there must be one near you. I hope all went well with your surdery I had the same, mastectomy with immediate reconsruction in August last year. I had a lift and a new nipple in the November. I have booked to have my nipple tatotoed in July when I get home from a hoilday, I have booked to celebrate end of active treatment. Take care

Hi Beppie - I just wanted to jump in and say hello/ welcome and if you need any help in the online network at all, just let me know :-)
There are two online groups for the Brisbane QLD area that you might like to connect with? You can find them here: South East QLD support and Brisbane & Gold Coast breast cancer support (which you need to join to view the posts as the group is private). Let me know if you need a hand connecting with these groups or other members within the Online Network.

Hi Beppie,
Thought I would also mentioned that the BCNA webpage has a list of support groups that meet face-to-face. You can search using your post code to find a group near you. https://www.bcna.org.au/services-and-support-groups/
Please let me know if you would like to know more about support groups or if you have trouble getting in touch with a group.
Best wishes,
Kim

I have tried the Wesley Choices programmes . They offer craft classes, Pilates and stretch classes. Did the classes, everyone left and I didn't make friends at all. No one wanted to go for coffee. They don't have a group where you can sit and chat about your journey with cancer to others and get feedback and meet other women. I found the woman in charge not very friendly and unhelpful so I stopped going . Maybe it's just me , I don't know. Just as well I like my own company
