Hello everyone,

Happy New Year!  Welcome to our first community update for 2021. I hope you all had a restful holiday break and were able to spend time with loved ones.

A big thank you to all of our group leaders and major contributors who were able to log in from time to time over the festive season to ensure that any new members were welcomed online and that our existing members remained well supported.

A very warm welcome to all of our new members who joined our online community over the last month. You will find a friendly, welcoming and supportive online community.

The  Community Info tab in the top blue navigation bar has information that can help you navigate the online forum and our community guidelines.  You can read current and past threads by other members or post questions or comments in the main discussion forum.  You are also welcome to visit and join some of the other groups that are available and contribute to the recent discussion threads.

Community highlights

1.       Newly diagnosed and need support

Thread commenced by @Liz27, great that you have connected with our online community and wishing you well for your upcoming surgery.

2.       Need for lymphoedema arm sleeves

Good discussion thread commenced by @Abbydog.

There is also a great website by the Australian Lymphology Association that you may like to view for further information.

3.       Music: what song are you listening to…invites and answers the question ‘how are you?’

Great thread, loving the song choices!

  • Absolutely great thread and amazing support provided from our online community members, BCNA nurses and BCN.
  • The discussion started by @Reggie3 on 10 January - DCIS - Breast marker missed in initial surgery - is the most read thread of the week.  At the time of writing my post, it had garnered 858 views and 44 comments.

It commands recognition for the support and advice she received from the BCNA Online Network community, BCNA nurses by phone, and intervention by external breast care nurses to rectify her surgeon's failure to remove the DCIS and biopsy surgical clip.  They remain in her breast after a wide local excision.
