Living with metastatic breast cancer is an incredibly challenging experience. As well as managing ongoing treatment and its side effects, many people face uncertainty, changing priorities, and the emotional impact of living with an incurable diagnosis. It can feel overwhelming, and there may be moments when those around you don't fully understand what this experience is like, even those with an early breast cancer diagnosis.

Samantha was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in 2014, shortly before her son's second birthday. After undergoing surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and hormone therapy, she believed she was moving on with life after cancer and began rebuilding her life. However, in 2019, new symptoms led to the devastating news that her cancer had spread to her lungs and bones, resulting in a diagnosis of metastatic breast cancer.

Diagnosed with MBC in 2019, BCNA member Sam is sharing her experience to help challenge some of the common myths around living with metastatic disease – from working and maintaining relationships, to the misconception that "looking well" means you are well.
