About to start radiotherapy
I have just had my planning session for radiotherapy on my right breast (mastectomy in July 2019, tissue expander now in place) I was worried about having the tattoos but they were just a scratch. The CT machine closest to my home (I live in SW WA) was not able to do the scan so I had to travel a couple of hours closer to Perth. All ok there though. Apparently the images are not so good with the magnet in place on my tissue expander but the newer machine was good. It was just a wasted journey, a week after chemo. So I am hoping I can get some good tips from those of you who have been through the radiotherapy journey (I think I have 25 daily sessions).71Views0likes3CommentsRads after DIEP reconstruction...any experience?
Hiya, just wondering whether anyone here has had radiation after their reconstruction, rather than having a masectomy, then rads, then reconstruction? My surgeon reasons it will be ok, but the plastic surgeon is not keen! Not helpful! Did you have any bad experiences doing this? Or was all well? I'm booked in for an MRI just to double check the size of the cancer, then they'll decide whether it's an instant recon or delayed, so it might be a clear cut answer, but I'd still like to hear of any experiences you've had please!111Views0likes6CommentsRadiation with Implant
Hi. Just wondering is anyone has had radiation therapy with an implant in and what the experience was. I have heard that radiation can ruin the implant. I was diagnosed with BC in November - 3 largish tumours - The recommendation was to have chemotherapy first to try and shrink the tumours and then surgery. Chemo finished 4 weeks ago (no real affect on the tumours unfortunately) - Surgery with direct implant was 9 days ago Pathology result showed clear margins around all tumours but there is cancer in the sentinel nodes so back for more surgery next week for auxiliary node removal. Doctor said today that because there were multiple tumours I would definitely need radiation to the chest wall - My question is why did they say it was ok to go direct to implant when it appears now that radiation therapy is unavoidable and known before the surgery even happened. I am very worried71Views0likes7Comments
