What to do with prosthetics and bras?
Hi Everyone, I have a few of the soft post surgical prosthetics and one of the more substantial type, plus a few bras in sizes 12 to 14, C and DD cup sizes. These are not necessarily fancy bras or anything. What does one do with them? I am happy to give them to someone and thought I would check here before I binned them. When I go swimming, I tend to wear a rashie and a pair of board shorts (not that I swim very often - you can actually count the number of times I've swum in the last 20 years on one hand!) I've never been into 'girlie' swimsuits either ... I think the last swimsuit I actually bought was in 1977 when I went to UK/Europe for 8 months! Traveling with prosthesis
Hello everyone - I recently went to Perth airport to see some friends off. I went through the Virgin security and was unceremoniously patted down in public ! I don’t EVER want to go through that again ! We will be traveling domestically in two weeks so I’m looking for advice and support. Tissues have been suggested to use as padding - so has the water foam prosthesis - can anyone give me suggestions that have worked for them please. My husband has Alzeimers so my emphasis is on him - I can’t be taken away from him as he will become confused and distressed - thanks so very much 💗
Taking the next step - buying prothesis
Hi, I haven't posted for a number of months as I have been settling in to my new life with no breasts and trying to get my energy levels back. I had a bilateral mastectomy in February last year and spent chemo and my 60th birthday in lockdown. I am now on Letrozel for 5 years but otherwise life is more or less back to normal. I had lots of support from my church and my work friends during the whole ordeal so I was very blessed. I am not sure about anyone else but it is when chemo had finished and I went back to work that I found the hardest. My life was just not quite the same as it had been, apart from the physical which was magnified by the fact that my belly seemed to swell during chemo - (I look like a pregnant woman and full term at that) but I just can't seem to shake the fatigue and I need to be careful not to be too hard on myself and let my thoughts run away from me. I look at myself sometimes and think "Oh my gosh...". I have finally decided to try getting a prothesis as I am tired of trying to adjust my bra with the chicken fillet moving all the time. If I don't wear the bra, which is far more comfortable, I really look like I am all belly. I would love some feedback on the breat prothesis you can purchase from others who have them. Are they heavy? Do they move around all the time like the stuffed ones we got in the care packs? Is there anywhere that you can go to get used ones to try before you outlay the money? It just feels like another step that brings back the reminder of having cancer. Sorry it probably seems silly to be so thrown by looking at getting these prothesis but it just brings the reality of life back to me I guess. Any feedback is really appreciated.
Prosthesis - I can’t stop crying
hi all so my story is found a lump in feb, lumpectomy in March, sentinel Node op in April then mastectomy And lymph nodes removed on right breast in may i am very lucky in that I Do not need chemo nor radiation and have started on tamoxifen Today I went and got my prosthesis and a couple of bras. I have/had big boobs but this seems ginormous i feel that I shouldn’t be complaining about this but I have cried all day. I hate it. I really do. Is this normal? Will I feel better? Right now I wish they removed both breasts and I would have just dealt with that. I would like to get a recon but that’s minimum 12 months away i am so sorry for complaining but it has all hit me today does it get better? thanks lisa xx

I thank all the comments received so far. My cousin bought prosthesis to wear when she went out with her husband. She found them heavy and made her shoulders ache. Her husband said to wear them for herself not him. They have sat in a box for 9 years with an occasional dust! I did discuss the bra with my husband and his response was adamantly the same. So it is in the drawer. Goes to lifeline next cleanup. Now ladies can anyone please advise where I could buy affordable stylish chamsols. Anyone tried the Amoena multi-way?
When my scar has healed sufficiently, I'll get a prosthesis and mastectomy bra. I've just watched a video online about the Amoena multi-way product - the adhesive panel that sticks to the back of a prosthesis and to the skin of one's chest. Removable after use and re-useable. Has anyone tried these?
