Prolia (Denosumab) Injections for osteoporosis
Dear Online community, I'm after more thoughts on treatment for osteoporosis. I was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer July 2017. My type is oestrogen receptor positive. So, I was put on Letrozole straight away, had a lumpectomy, chemo & radiotherapy. Last mammogram clear, so all good. However, I now have osteoporosis. I'm taking calcium & vitamin D, but my oncologist is looking into 6 monthly injections of Prolia (Denosumab) to reduce the risk of fractures (particularly in the hip). I've looked at the possible side effects & some look awful!!! Anyone experienced these injections & any related side effects? Cheers, Sue255Views0likes19CommentsOsteoporosis
Hi I'm 58 and 6 years post diagnosis and 4 yeas post treatment for HER2+ BC. Had chemo and radio plus Herceptin. Had two bone density tests during treatment half way and at end. There were some signs of bone loss but at no point was I told to keep having these tests. Fast forward to a fall and fractured wrist and a bone density test. I've been diagnosed with osteoporosis of my hips and lower back. Probably caused by steroids during treatment and menopause. Has anybody had experience taking Aclasta or Prolia? Any side effects or pain? I want the truth. Thanks for reading. CassieB1.2KViews0likes36CommentsLetrozole tablet concerns???
Hello, I am her2 menopausal. Had lumpectomy surgery, 17 chemos and radio. My oncologist wants to start me on Letrozole tablets next. I'm worried about getting osteoporosis?! I suffered a fair amount of joint soreness thru my final chemos. Anyone else take letrozole and get joint or bone side effects from them???191Views0likes11CommentsOsteoporosis at 42
I’ve just been diagnosed with osteoporosis (my T score is -2.9) and I’m 42. I was diagnosed with BC in July last year... I’m NED and on Zoladex and Exemastane. This is something I was not expecting. I think I’m going to stop anti-cancer treatment. I don’t want my T score to drop any further.2 years on Prolia injections have significant affect on Bone Density improvement.
Hi Ladies, I love the sharing of information as I think it's valuable to everyone here. I had my Oncologist visit yesterday and received my Bone Density results. Compared to 2016 there is a marked improvement in my TScore in the Lumbar Spine it was -2.9 and now is -2.2 with a Z-score that was -2.4 and now is -1.6. The Oncologist said it is an incredible improvement and indicative of the Prolia injections. In 2016 my Bone Density post Chemo was deemed Osteoporotic. I don't do weight bearing exercises but I know the benefit of it. I do exercise and am active in my job however. I am super happy to be out of high risk, whilst I'll never be fantastic, alot has to do with genetics he said, he's really happy with where it is. So I will have 1 more year on Prolia which I can add....has zero symptoms :) As a result of this after 3yrs I am now pushed to yearly Oncology visits woohoo!!!!!! My Oncologist in 1997 undertook a 3-year breast and lung cancer clinical research Fellowship at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, working with Professor Ian Smith. He is a member of the Australian New Zealand Breast Cancer Trials Group, and until recently was the head of the Breast Trials Group of Cancer Trials Australia. He has authored articles appearing in journals such as the Journal of Clinical Oncology, Annals of Oncology, The Breast and British Journal of Cancer. He also said in terms of risk of recurrence, it is solely based on an individuals diagnosis, pathology/histology and genetics only that will determine this irrespective of anything else. That it has been OVERDONE in terms of the message to reduce risk together with stats. M x1.7KViews1like49CommentsOsteoporosis and treatments
My oncologist is recommending Prolia for my osteoporosis. I have taken Femara for 6 years and this has significantly reduced my bone density. I was swapped a year ago to Tamoxifen, and my bone density is still dropping. My T-score is now -2.4. I am almost at the osteoporotic level of -2.5. My oncologist recommends this 6 monthly injection, and says it is the best in his opinion for osteoporosis treatment. He said side effects were minimal or none at all. I did a google search of this drug and was surprised by all the negative reviews. Any advice good or bad would be greatly appreciated please. Does anyone have the yearly infusion or take the tablets instead of the Prolia injection? Chris xx201Views0likes17CommentsOsteoporosis treatment
I'm her2 and Er positive and just finished herceptin and on arimidex for 10 years. I have osteoporosis in my arms. Just made an appt with Bone Clinic in Dee Why. They are a licensee of Bone Clinic in Qld that some of you have spoken about. I don't want to take medication but zoladex has been shown to help prevent recurrence. Decisions, decisions as apparently once you start medication chances of repairing bones through weight bearing exercise is reduced! Your thoughts and experiences would be appreciated131Views0likes9Comments
