ENCORE - Hunter region
Hi ladies, Many of you may be familiar with the YWCA ENCORE program. ENCORE is a FREE eight week program designed specifically for women who have experienced breast cancer at any time in their life. Incorporating exercises, relaxation techniques and information. It is safe, fun and therapeutic. The exercise program is specifically designed to target areas that have been affected by breast cancer surgery and treatment. These exercises improve strength, mobility and flexibility whilst the warm water in the hydrotherapy sessions relieve affected muscles. The program also offers information through guest speakers, links into local services, and opportunity to connect with local women who share a similar experience in a safe, fun and supportive environment. Many great friendships have been formed at Encore programs! Unfortunately ENCORE is no longer running nationally.... however YWCA Hunter has successfully secured funding to reboot ENCORE in the Hunter region. * SINGLETON - We're taking enrolments now! Adelaide Encore - free hydrotherapy program
The new dates are on the YWCA Adelaide website for the free Encore program.Basically starts October as term 3 most of us don’t like going out in the cold. It is an 8 week program , 2 hours per week.Involves one hour hydrotherapy and each week is a guest speaker covering topics relevant to breast cancer.Is also a wonderful opportunity to meet up with others in the same boat - maybe even make new friends. There are 2 locations - one north and one south. From a personal viewpoint I found it excellent and highly recommend it. If you are interested it may be an idea to apply quickly in case it fills. Just a reminder .The YWCA in most states ( not Vic atm but I gather is being looked at seriously ) runs a free 8 week x 2 hour hydrotherapy course in both metropolitan and regional areas. The next courses will be starting soon usually October . In addition to hydrotherapy there are talks on the Otis foundation ( free holiday accomodation) , post Op bras / bathers/ other clothes and other topics of interest each week. Best darned thing I have done - also enables meeting others who are in the same boat to talk , share and yes even laugh. If you are interested contact your state YWCA either online or by phone soon as places fill quickly. SA has only 2 courses - sadly both metro but have been told the south east will have one soon.NSW has an extensive program both metro and regional as it has state govt support. The other states have programs too.
