Post surgery help
I'm having surgery in a week and a half - double mastectomy and reconstruction. I've been advised it will be a 6 week recovery period with two weeks of not being able to drive. I'm an immigrant single parent (two kids, 9 and 12) with no family here but a strong social network. I've been mulling over how to organize help at home - what level of help have others found was needed after similar surgery? One of my siblings has offered to come and stay with us for a couple of weeks - I'm inclined to accept as I'm thinking it will be easier to have another adult with us full time rather than having to organize multiple different people who are coming and going. How long was help needed with housework etc?
One week until my surgery....
Hi Everyone! Reaching out to my online friends. Today marks one week until my surgery for the bilateral total mastectomy and left axillary dissection. I have chosen to go flat and Im ok with this decision. Any words of advice, encouragement, essential items you packed when you had surgery? I have the button up PJs. My surgeon said I will be in hospital for 4 nights as he wants to monitor the drains and hopefully remove them before my discharge home. But any advice to help me mentally, any tips support would be appreciated. Physically I am going ok, I have finsihed 4 rounds of the red devil; 1st milestone done! Now Im mentally preparing for next week. At least I get to have a lovely Easter break with my family prior to surgery. (no horror stories please.....Im trying to stay positive and resilient). Thanks my friends xx Post my surgery recovery I will need 15 sessions (1per day x 3weeks) of radiation. But first my mind just needs to deal with the surgery next week as the next milestone.
Anxious wait
Hi all, I’ve been waiting since end of June for a surgery date (they originally only found DCIS in my right breast). Last week the surgeon told me they’ve also found mixed DCIS/LCIS invasive triple positive 8mm lesion as well on my last biopsy. I’ve finally been booked in for surgery 15 October which is still 4 weeks away. I’m an anxious wreck and so scared it is going to spread in that time. Each day I feel weaker and more depressed. I’m wondering if others have been in same situation and what they did. I’m already accessing counselling, meds and exercise. Hi everyone. How good is this website? I have learnt so much. I have been recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer 😒 and will be having a double mastectomy in the coming weeks. I am looking for suggestions/ideas for post surgery. For example clothes to wear, pillows, chairs, sleeping positions and the like. Looking forward to your ideas. Thank You
BMX with ALN removal and SN biopsy.
Hello to all you lovely folks on here. I've had 6 cycles of THCP and I'm having BMX this Wednesday, with axillary clearance on the left and sentinal node biopsy on the right. Has anyone had the same? And any advice for recovery? Were you able to go out for a walk or is it mostly housebound at first? I'm also dealing with heamorroids so a little worried about that.
