Complementary Therapies
I am not looking for a miracle cure but just wondering if anyone has had any success with complementary/natural/ alternative ideas while underdoing and/or recovering from chemo. No doubt everyone has had plenty of those around that mean well with all of the miracle cures - oxygen therapy, soursop tea, mushroom tea and the like. I like the idea of natural healing and anything that could assist with recovery without interfering with treatment interests me.4Views0likes5Commentsdizziness - tamoxifen
Hi all... Just wanting some advice/comments/experiences... I am in about month 3 of Tamoxifen and the dizziness is getting worse. To the point of nearly passing out yesterday when I got up from the ground. Then at yoga nearly passed out again... My local nurse took my blood pressure today and that seems fine.... Has anyone else experienced this? For my mental health and wellbeing I cannot give up yoga... oh, the joyful side effects continue!1View0likes5CommentsDiagnosed with TNBC 3 weeks ago
Hello all, My name is Sonja and I'm a mother of 2 children and sepmother to another. I'm 34 years old and was diagnosed with TNBC approx 3 weeks ago. I have already had a lumpectomy and a sentinel lymph node removal. My lymph nodes are all clear but my tumor was found to be TNBC at 1.6cm. I am starting my first lot of Chemo "FEC 100" on the 11th of Sep. I'm scared and worried that this drug will do damage to my body and for what? Will it really work?... Will my cancer return?... TNBC is more likely to return during the first 5 years, BUT I'm going to do it and I'm trying to change my thinking and believe in this chemo drug. I'm going to start meditation and visualisation techniques as of today, and hopefully I can make this as part of my everyday life. Does anybody have any tips for this or for making life easier during chemo? Natural supplements ect? I'd love any helpful advice or tips if you have any? Thank you for reading. Hi Girls, Firstly, Welcome to our new Members - I hope we all can contribute a little and have a little fun here too. I achieved my very first milestone last night. I had my very first L-plate Stylists social night at my house with 10 gal friends. This is just a test run for my "give back a little" project I had in mind since my chemotherapy. The idea is that I will offer my services to ladies in POWH (nsw) who are going through cancer, and who would like to learn to be a L-plate stylist like me! Chemo Style, helps you to be your own Stylist In my opinion, Styling is an Art - you learn about it, and read about it, and practice it on yourself and again and again every day. Styling is also a Complementary Theraphy that distracts you and your family during Cancer Treatment - it has a flow on effect on your mental health and positive attitude.try it today and see how it works for you tomorrow and the day after, and the day after that, and the day after that .... It is free, as you are your own theraphist - no need to claim any insurance !! Chemo Style = the new age Complementary Theraphy!! What is known about the benefits of complementary therapies for cancer? Ref: http://www.cancerinstitute.org.au/cancer_inst/profes/comp_therapies_faq.html [[--- Start Quote ---]] Many patients report positive effects from complementary therapies and this is supported by their heavy financial investment in them. Clinical trials need to be undertaken on a range of therapies for people with cancer. In Australian cancer patients 4) the most frequently given reasons for their use of therapies were a preference for natural therapy and seeing the complementary therapies as another source of hope. Many people find these therapies provide improvement in their quality of life. Several surveys have been conducted assessing the use of complementary therapies by people with cancer. Research over the last decade shows that of the people who survive cancer: 25% found acupuncture helpful; 31% found hypnotherapy helpful; and 69% found meditation, relaxation or visual imagery helpful. And of the palliative cancer patients: 58% found acupuncture helpful; 46% found hypnotherapy helpful; and 82% found meditation, relaxation or visual imagery helpful. [[--- End Quote ---]] p.s. I had Acupunture, and found it useful before and after each round of chemo. Especially for side effect such nausea, and general recovery. It also allowed me to meditate during acupunture treatment, which I loved! What are your experiences?1View0likes3CommentsAcupuncture for hot flushes
Hi Ladies, just wondering if any of you have ever used acupuncture for the relief of hot flushes and other menopausal symptoms? I am new to Perth, and am keen to try this, but have no contacts here. Can anyone recommend a good Acupuncturist here in Perth? Love Chris xx1View0likes4CommentsTaxol 7, Herceptin 2
Taxol 7 today, arrived at oncology unit at 2pm. Unusually busy for this time of the day, got told by one of the nurses 4 reactions! Finally go in, escorted by a new agency nurse never set eyes on before. Wait an hour for pre-meds and start Taxol at 3.55pm. Starting to feel teary by this stage as I was quite tired. Same agency nurse was getting instructed by one of the other nurses how to hook up Taxol. Then for no real reason I burst into tears. Nurses and Oncologist thought I was having a reaction too! No I sobbed just over it and don't want to be here today. Finally I get out of there just after 5pm then it's an hour's drive to pick up kids and home. Very long day. Still teary. Need to go to to bed I think.1View0likes0Comments
