Re: DCIS undetected by mammogram
My DCIS was not detected by mammogram in August 2016. In late November my left breast became superboob due to inflammation and the lump was detected. The tumour was 7cm and high grade. Mastectomy in January 2017. I've since had the left breast removed. Glad to have 2017 done and dusted!

Thanks so much @iserbrown I had a staph infection after the last surgery with exactly the same stint in hospital and antibiotics!. This presents differently however I have concerns so will get it checked today.

Post mastectomy rash
Well I've broken my rule about Dr Google and am paying the price! I think it's reassurance I'm seeking? The story so far: I'm 5 weeks post prophylactic mastectomy right side, left breast removed in January 2017 DCIS, 7cm tumour, no chemo or radiation required. . The DCIS was diagnosed after my breast became inflamed and didn't respond to antibiotics. Current issue: I've develop a rash across my chest that is extremely raised red and itchy, it burns and is not responding to antihistamines. It's painful. Of course my GP is away until Monday and clinic at the hospital was today. The breast care nurse may be in tomorrow, I'm not sure? So of course Dr Google has taken me to worse possible case scenario. I'm wondering if others have experienced anything similar post surgery? thanks in advance Terrie xx

Thanks very much for your responses. @TonyaM - My surgeon doesn't use drains post op, nor it seems is keen to drain in the weeks after surgery? @Zoffiel It was late one night in the ward that the seroma was aspirated-sutures where snipped and the fluid drained from my hazy memory 250 mls. A traumatic experience! I Short story - I had developed sepsis, later that night my blood pressure was so low emergency doctors were called, my kidneys failed. I was discharged after 6 nights, it slowed my recovery significantly. So I have this fear of seroma and infection!! @Afraser I will look to massage and fingers crossed it disperses naturally. @Amazonia I am seeing my surgeon next Thursday so will ask about compression and if there's anything I can do.

How to manage seroma post mastectomy?
I had mastectomy surgery on 2 August and am seeking advice on how to manage a seroma. I had a poor experience after my last mastectomy surgery-staph infection, seroma drained by hand in ward, it was a traumatic experience and thus my concern about seroma and how to manage?? My surgeon doesn't use drains. any advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks Terrie

@melclarity it certainly did and Dr Liang has been a godsend. Very caring and interested, didn't hesitate to arrange the prophylactic removal and made me a category one, so no real wait. In saying that if she got busy I would have been bumped and happily so! @Nenemiles thanks for your words of support. I had a staph infection after my last mastectomy so I'm determined to have a trouble free recovery!
