Thinking ahead.
Hi ladies, thinking ahead at this stage. Wondering if anyone has had a mastectomy on one breast and using a external breast prothesis for the other breast. All replies will be greatly appreciated. ...
Hi there
i didn't have a reconstruction, so one boob and a prosthesis. To be honest, I was never very sure about a reconstruction - large boobs probably meant an implant and possibly scarring elsewhere, if more tissue was required. I also got a very large and persistent seroma, which took neartly a year to clear and required surgery. So once all that was cleared up, I was reluctant to intervene again.
I find a prosthesis fine - after a year with soft, easy to dislodge pads because of the seroma, I found a prosthesis wonderful! I had a slight backache the first week, due entirely to walking lopsided for a year. You can get ones for swimming, there is a rebate on cost, and care is simple. I don't strip off in public all that often (although cancer treatment should render us all immune to any issues about that, do it often enough!). And while I don't think for a second that it's an issue that husbands need to be consulted on, mine is perfectly comfortable with how I look.
Alwats good to get some opinions, I am sure there are many views.
Good luck with whatever you decide.
