Yes, dense breasts means that mammograms were difficult and painful, lumps could be seen much easier on MRI so had to have many MRI’s which actually picked up cancer that hid in the mammograms
Wow, you'd think it would be standard procedure to have an mri with dense tissue. Since my diagnosis six weeks ago, I've been thinking back on my previous mammogram. It was the last one I had in the mobile bus and then I had to go to the Breastscreen clinic due to a dense area in my breast. S3cond mammogram and ultrasound and the doctor told me it was just fibrous tissue and nothing to worry about.
Now fast forward 15 months and I have/had a 9mm invassive carcinoma and a 3cm x 2cm x 1cm DCIS area. Just wondering if I was misdiagnosed back then. 🤔
I also had dense breast tissue SYLV1E - and the mobile buses only have 2D mammograms, (not 3D Thomosynthesis - which shows thousands of 'slices') so I don't know 'how many years' they'd missed my ILC (over 16 years of previous scanning.) ILC is usually very slow growing.
My GP actually FELT mine just months after my screening 'all clear' even tho it was ILC (Invasive Lobular) which doesn't form 'lump's as such' - ILC is more like 'strands'.
I never had MRI or CT as part of any diagnostic tools. Back then, Breast Screening NSW still weren't admitting that Dense Breast Tissue even made diagnosis more difficult just with Mammogram!!
These days, most States Breast Screening HAVE to advise new clients of the breast density & recommend further testing if it is dense (like yours. I won't go back to the buses .... I have no faith in them at all. I'd suggest you continue with the Clinic, not the bus.
