Surgery pathology results ?

I have recently had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy. Pathology results have come in and my surgeon advised stage 1 (tumour size 1.8cm, which was smaller than ultrasound indicated) and grade 3 (aggressive), so very glad we've caught it early. Good news is that margins were clear and nodes were clear so no further surgery required. My core biopsy had me as pr- and er-, so I was very eager to hear if I was her2-. I asked surgeon and he advised that her2 was negative so I asked if that meant I was triple negative - to which he responded he wasn't sure as recent pathology had me down as er 'very weak', pr still negative, he said oncologist would advise further. Anyone have anything similar?
  • Hi Sonja Sorry to hear of your recent diagnosis. Rest assured I'm definitely fighting this - I've just had my third round of FEC and am scheduled to have three rounds of Docetaxal (I think it is also referred to as Taxotere). I've had the BRCA test done and am awaiting the results and like you results will probably determine whether I go ahead and have radiation (I've been advised it would be 30 sessions) or go down the mastectomy route. It seems everyone's side effects to chemo are different - I have suffered from nausea with FEC but have managed to keep it fairly well under control with the anti nausea meds - I can only suggest you really listen to your body - rest when you need to and make the most of the days you feel good!! I've started having the nuelasta shot after each round as my white blood counts were getting too low - I think that has its own side effects. Hang in there - I just feel better knowing I am now actively doing something to fight this. All the best and please let me know how you get on with your treatment. Renee
  • Hello Renee,

Just joined the group today and came across your posts. It seems my TNBC is similar to yours. I was diagnosed 3 weeks ago and am starting chemo on the 11th of Sep. I too am stage 1 (1.6 and no nodes affected) and a grade 3 TNBC. My chemo starts with 3 x FEC followed by another 3 treatments (not sure what chemo drugs will be used for second treatment yet) then radio or mastectomy depending on my Genetic test results. Would love to know how your going? Hope your fighting through this. Thinking of you, Sonja

  • Hi all- well after my recent posts and confusion re tumour status following surgery (lumpectomy & sentinel nodes) we have finally met with the oncologist and have my treatment plan. Stage (1.8mm and no nodes), grade 3, triple negative breast cancer also mentioned ki67 level of 95%. Planned treatment is 3xFEC, 3xD followed by radiotherapy. I had my first chemo treatment today and the nurses were lovely. Feeling pretty ok, tad tired and my son says I look a bit green! The oncologist is doing a referral for the genetic counsellor so that will be another interesting appointment. I'm feeling strong and positive - trying to be realistic and understand it isn't all going to all be smooth sailing - but also remaining determined (I'm writing this also for myself so I can look back on it when I need to!). I think I'm going to 'listen to my body' and have an early night now.
