Surgery next

Today I was told the results of my last biopsy, and made plans for first steps of treatment. Surgery first, in four weeks - I'll be recovering over the Mother's Day weekend from my bilateral mastectomy and bilateral sentinel node biopsies.

I feel strangely stronger, now that decisions are being made and plans set in place - though there is more info to come after surgery. This seems to be a practical type of phase of the journey, getting fitted for new bras and looking at prosthethis, talking to my workplace, while physically I'm normal.

What a roller coaster ride.

  • It is one crazy ride....

I was diagnosed 5 weeks ago and had my surgery last week. Mine was a much smaller surgery (lumpectomy and sentinel node removal) but still I understand what you mean.

It sounds like you are on the right track and in the right mindset :)

Just hang in there. It is great to be organised and to plan but do not be hard on yourself and make yourself be overly organised. Just do and feel whatever feels right and act whichever way feels right.

It is one Hell of a rollercoaster and I guess we have all either gone through it or are going through it so do not forget we are here and we will understand what you are going through.

All the best with your procedure and I do wish you a very speedy recovery.

  • Good you have a date, now you can plan around it. I felt better once I had something formal lined up too.

  • It always feels better to know what is happening. Hope all goes well. Keeping busy helps. Kath x
