Some results from surgery

So... still learning the lingo. Let's see if I get this right. Mastectomy removed the original site of the cancer being a lump less than 18mm in diameter.

The axillary clearance involved Dr Kollias removing a chunk of fat from under my arm containing all the lymph nodes associated with my breast. The analysis of this found only 2 nodes out of a total of 19 contained cancer - 1 we had known about, 1 we hadn't.

The tissue around the cancers is 'well clear' which is another positive.

The cancer itself is Grade 3 - fast growing.

Overall Dr Kollias was pleased with the results as they showed we seem to have got all the cancer and removed it.

Follow up will need to be Chemo starting in 3 weeks from surgery as an insurance against any nasty cancer cells that may be lurking and theatening to stay in residence.

Radiotherapy may not be needed.

More results due in about a week.

  • I've found that 'writing' is a good way to process things - lesson from my daughter. I also find it is a great record for me cos I so easily forget things!!

  • Lots to look at! Soooo much useful information. Can't compain I've got nothing to do! Knowledge is power and I love reading.

  • Hey Erica

It is great news to hear that the doc has got all the cancer and it is all clear. Good to see you blogging your journey as you go through. It is so helpful to you to be able to get it out there and to share your experience with us all. I found the support fantastic and don't think I would have travelled the journey so well without all my pink sisters.

I am wishing you well and looking forward to being here to chat with you as you travel the chemo road. The blog of "what has helped you through your journey" (something like that) which was re-featured just recently is a fantastic post to take lots of information from to help you should you have any side effects.

Sending you good healing vibes following your surgery.

    Lots of love, Mich xoxo

  • The blog is a great idea Erica and in hindsight I wish I had accepted the support that was offered to me here in the UK. What great news that the surgery was a success and "it" is no longer. I will follow your blog without a doubt. Jilly xxx ps. You look fab!
