Silly Question

I don't know who to ask but after removal of milk ducts can I wear a bra straight away as I would be very uncomfortable with the other breast if this is not possible.

  • Where are you @pip47 ?  There might be somewhere local that can be recommended or that will come to you.
  • @Pip47 Berlei is a sponsor of BCNA so if you log on to the Berlei website & sign up, you can get a discount of 50% off RRP by entering the code MYCARE50% at the checkout. I know its hard buying online sometimes but they specialise in post-op bras & they have a free return policy within 30 days. Good luck xx

My lumpectomy scar is on the outer bottom corner of my right breast, right where the seam of most bras sit - ouch!

The most comfortable bras that I found are sold in Target. They are front hooking post surgical bras, very soft and the side seam is approximately 2 cm away from my scar.

They are so very comfortable I am still wearing them 2 years post surgery. The bra sizes are 12 to 22 in a cup range of B to D. They have a pocket for a prothesis if required.

I found that after surgery I could not fasten back hooking bras, my right arm would not cooperate.

My only "whinge" about them is that the straps are not adjustable (not really a problem) and they look like "granny" bras!!!
  • Arpie Thank you for answering, I don't have any underwire bras so that part is good. the Ahaa bras I couldn't use as I can't use them now as they don't have enough support.
  • Your Breast care nurse may be able to supply you with a special 'Berlei Bra'  for free (donated by Berlei to BC patients, post op.)  It is a quality soft bra that does up from the front instead of the back, so you put it on like a jacket.

Failing that - KMart and other shops have a lot of 'pull over' bras (Ahaa Bra is one of them) and they often come in a pack of 3 - white, beige & black!

I hope you are able to find one that suits you.  xx
  • @Pip47 Many find wearing a bra no problem, others find it hurts. Much depends on where the surgery incision  is. You will probably need a non wire bra.
