Pre Surgery

Hi all, I know I am getting ahead of myself but having talked to two ladies locally and seeing several posts on here where the margins aren't clear and a second operation to remove more tissue is necessary? Just wondering how often this happens.  My son gets married 10 days after my initial surgery and it just dawned on me that some go back for a second surgery.

  • Yep probably getting ahead of yourself I don't know figures but my sense is most times they get clear margins and if they don't then chances are back in pretty quick or they will schedule it after wedding! You are more likely to hear when things don't go to plan.  Kinda does your head in occupying a space when you know about clear margins...grades etc...

    best wishes

  • I had a second surgery as my first margins weren't clear. I had to wait for my initial results for a week. My surgeon did my second surgery a week after that only because he was going away for 3 weeks. Talk to you surgeon about your concerns as I have found mine to make himself available to answer questions that I have. Remember that everyone is different as is each case.

Be kind to yourself and take it one step at a time as not everyone has a second surgery.

  • Hi yes this can happen but try not to worry about the what ifs. I had a couple of surgeries to get clear margins but still ended up with a mastectomy. That was my trip, it dosen't mean it will be yours. get over this one and try and stay positive. Take care
