Post Surgery

Well I am now 4 days post surgery and doing ok. Passed out the first time I had a shower when I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror. To say it was a shock, was an understatement. A few more days on and I still haven't been able to look and that's with the steri strips still in place! Bare in mind that I can't even look at an X-ray image without feeling queasy. I haven't had very much pain from the surgical sites themselves, but have had an issue with the drains rubbing against or hitting nerve endings. After the first day, I had one of the three drains removed because of this issue. Had another incident last night and nearly hit the roof from the pain. The good news is that it was quickly resolved when they released the suction from the drains. I then walked around a bit, had the drains reattached and all good. I must say I have had fantastic health care and support from all the staff at The Mount Hospital in Perth. My surgeon is an absolute sweetie and the nurses are amazing. The food is pretty good too!

  • Thanks Tonya & Susan. It's day 6 and still in hospital. Hoping to have the second drainage tube out tomorrow and possibly go home with the last one. Glad to hear I'm not the only squeamIsh one Susan. How did you cope with having to massage the scars? I am just so glad that it is not this time last week! I keep thinking this time last month, I was in blissful ignorance. So much has happened in the last 4 weeks.
  • Sounds like your doing really well considering. I vomited when I first saw myself. A nurse recommended I look at only a small section each day looking at another section until I felt less intimidated by all the incisions..2 1/2 feet in all.....try it, it worked for me... Continue to heal and stay well, kind regards Susan x
