Plastic surgeon Brisbane
Hi all,
There is a small possibility I may have to go to Brisbane for my Tram/diep reconstruction. I thought while I was playing a waiting game with my blood counts I could do a bit more research. Does anyone know of a good plastic surgeon in Brisbane who does this type of surgery ( exceptionally well of course ;) )

- Bumping this thread - any recent experiences on public wait times for recon, metro south? Or anyone recently used Dr David Thiele (or his brother Richard) privately and can guide decent out of pocket and what level health cover they had? Thank you.
I'm in the situation of having the BRCA1 mutation and am weighing up all of my options. My mum has had breast cancer 3 times, grandmother breast and passed away from ovarian. The Family History Clinic in Brisbane and my GP are recommending mastectomy and ovary+tube removal. I'm just starting the info gathering. If I go ahead with the surgery, and I'm strongly leading that way, I'm hoping for the last week of school this year so that I can have the school holidays to recover. i've only been a teacher 3 years and I don't have the sick leave to allow me to have the op during the year. Of course if I had a diagnosis there would be no question, but being an elective this is already going to cost enough without having an income.
I had 2 surgeons...Dr Cam MacKay (I love him, sigh) and Dr Shireen Senewiratne and I have no regrets. I am so very happy with my lovely perky breast and can't wait to have the other made smaller to suit. My op was done in the RBWH and was public. Out of pockets were zero and both doctors were so caring and respectful.

- I was actually able to have my surgery in Cairns which was great. I am now 11 weeks post op. When is your surgery? Good luck Paula
- I had Dr Thiele recommended for my reconstruction by my breast surgeon (Melinda Cooke) but she has said to expect to be around $4000 to 6000 out of pocket. Melinda won't cost me anything.

Hi Paula, I had mine done at the Mater in Brisbane. Dr Shireen Senewiratne was my surgeon. She was fantastic. I have no complaints at all. I went through the public system. I didn't pay a cent, although I waited almost 2 years for my bilateral tram flap op. Best wishes
- That sounds quite reasonable compared to some of the prices I have seen. I will need a double as going to have a prophylactic mastectomy of my other side. Had it done in Greenslopes Private. Dr Baley did it under the Medicare Gap. I think out of pocket fee was $2000., for aneth. Dr Baley only does a few now through Medicare, worth making an app . Ask him as sec will say he does not do it anymore through Medicare, thats what they told me, but when I asked him he said yes.

- I went private, the out of pocket expenses where a few thousand, I can't remember, I think the anaesthetic was pretty expensive.
