One week post-op

I was so relieved to have my drain removed after 7 days....I'm surprised it didn't get pulled out the number of times I tripped over it or forgot it was hanging on the back of my chair and walked off without it!

I have another week before my pathology report and to get rid of the dressings....itchy, numb and sticky!

Mastectomy wound is the least annoying part but underarm area is a pest...never mind - each day getting better!

Had a great email from a friend during the week who had BC 20 years ago....I was telling her how strange it was to run into people in the street and tell them my BC news....she said she well remembers how she would say "not overweight, don't smoke no family history" and you can see their faces drop thinking,

"if she can get it, so can I"....sadly no-one knows if/when it is their turn for this blip in their lives....thank goodness for wonderful treatments and fabulous research to help us all!

  • Isn't it such a relief to get that wretched drain out?! Sounds like you are recovering well. The underarm wound from lymph node removal does seem to cause more bother than the mastectomy cut.At first,I could fully move my arm with no problems. Then as it all started to heal,I could hardly lift my arm out in front of me.I ended up needing some physio and it eventually came good. I'll have fingers crossed for you that your pathology results show clear nodes - the good news we all want to hear.Keep up your arm exercises -strain but don't pain was what my physio said. It's good to hear your friend is ok after having bc 20 years ago-it gives us all hope doesn't it. Take it easy and my best wishes for a quick recovery. Tonya xx
