medication after masectomy

I ve just had a double masectomy, and was in hospital for 10 days and recieved blood thinners. It only occured to me today, a week after leaving hospital, that Iwas not given any to take home, I assume I don t need them now im at home? Was anyone given them to take home or advised to takea sprin? Am just concerned if I should be having something, but in the same thought the surgeon would have given me them if I needed. Am feeling anxious I think with all the pain med etc. not sure if it s common practise to have them at home after the operation.

  • THanks Natasha, I was told similiar , must be what they do. Just feeling anxious with all the pain medication im on. Good to hear am on the right track. Thanks .

  • I was given blood thinning injections while in hospital and was told it was to prevent clots while I was mainly in bed and less active.  I was not given anything to take home.  We move around more when recovering at home and the risk of clots is far less. I  don't think it's routine to take that type of medication home and wouldn't be concerned about it.

  • Hi Tiffany

Thanks, it helps to know others experiences as this is all new for me and not sure of what the common practises are.

  • Hi Tan, i had a single mastectomy & auxilliary clearance in November & wasn't given any blood thinning medication nor advised to take aspirin when i left hospital. Just advised to have plenty of rest.

    Hope this helps :)
