Looming double mastectomy

im having a double mastectomy with auxiliary lymph node clearance on the 1st November. Finding it hard to believe it’s happening even though I’ve had 6 months of chemo! Wondering how to get my head around it. How have others dealt with it? Going from a 10G to nothing seems so extreme!

  • I had my chemo first too, it's a long time to have to worry about the surgery. That worry will all be over in a few days which is the only positive that kept me going. Mxx
  • All I can say is that having had a double mastectomy (and reconstruction), I have found it a great relief to know that I never have to have a mammogram again. I will always miss my breasts, the sensations, but to live without the anxiety is very good indeed. That's how I feel so far anyway. Good luck with your surgery. K xox
  • And @MaryB83 it is very extreme. Unfortunately there is no way to get your head around it apart from knowing that it is necessary and you really don't have that much of a say. That in itself becomes a kind of consolation because there is no way that any of us would choose to do this willingly. Wishing for you that your surgery goes beautifully and that your anxiety and stress levels can be done and over with. Big hugs lovely, all the best and please let us know how you are going. Xx
