Just another bump in the road

So - what a year so far ... diagnosis 18.1.13 from a routine mammogram (no symptoms - no idea). From then I have had a lumpectomy with hook wire and sentinel node biopsy - yesterday I found out the lymph node is involved and I am headed for an axillary clearance and chemo before the next thing. I will have CT and bone scans to make sure the little bugger hasn't gone anywhere else.

I am doing fine but everyone around me keeps reminding me that I can be angry or yell or scream ... why waste energy being angry - it won't help. I am just glad that I get to share the journey with lovely people (especially the medical people).

So that is me - onward to the next thing.

  •  2013 has not started very well for you. What a shock to get a cancer diagnosis after a routine mammogram.I am also sorry to hear that you have to go back for a full node clearance, body and bone scans. But welcome to this network where you'll get lots of support and information. I've had breast cancer twice in the same breast. The first time was in 2003 and I had a lumpectomy, full node clearance(all were clear) and radiation.I took Tamoxifen for awhile but it didn't agree with me so I stopped. In 2010 cancer came back in the same spot so I had to have a mastectomy followed by chemo and am on Tamoxifen cos my cancer was eostrogen +ve again. The hardest thing about this crap journey is the waiting and not knowing. And sometimes the goal posts get shifted and you have to psyche yourself up to go in a different direction(as you have already encountered). You might find you put on a brave face for friends and family but you don't have to here. It's a great place to vent your fears and frustrations. I would often surprize myself at how brave I could be about the big stuff and then out of the blue be a blubbering mess about a little thing such as signing the chemo consent form. The emotions can catch you unawares and maybe further down the track.Have you got dates yet for scans and surgery? Also, have you ordered"my journey"kit from this network? It's got lots of helpful information and it's free. Blog back here anytime and let us know how you are going.
