Is this normal?

I finished 4 cycles chemotherapy two weeks ago. I begin 21 days of radiotherapy next week. Just noticed a significant lump near my lumpectomy scar. I’ve been doing strength training at the gym. Could this just be a build up of fluid? Is it normal to have fluid build up at this stage? Lumpectomy was on 21 March. Thanks all
  • Probably a seroma @Timmy Get it checked out, your surgeon should know about it. Usually they resolve themselves in time, though they can be frustratingly persistent and can require drainage in some circumstances. Mxx

  • Hi Timmy - welcome to the forum - there's a heap of info here to help you along the way.

Is the lump firm or squishy?  Tender/sore or not?

I've just had an ultrasound as my surgery area (around the nipple) has become tender to the touch & uncomfortable at night when I rolled over onto it - and it is a Seroma/fluid buildup which 'should' dissolve into the surrounding tissue some time soon (I hope!)..... I've been aware of it for a 3-4 weeks now and the ultrasound has confirmed it.  That would be your first port of call, I reckon.

Or - if you've been doing your strength training (how long ago did you start that?) You may have popped an internal stitch or something?

Definitely worth getting it checked out, just to be sure, to be sure

    Take care xx
