Implant hardness - help!

Hi - I've had a right breast mastectomy with implant, and left breast augmentation. Implants still quite hard and painful 7 weeks post op. Plastic surgeon now says he should have used soft silicone rather than polyurethane, and wants to replace them. I've already had 3 procedures on right breast and am really reluctant for more. Am having lymphedema massage which is helping a bit. Has anyone tried laser, ultrasound or acupuncture to help soften hard implants and lessen pain? Thanks.

  • Hi Chris - just wanted to thank you for your encouragement and feedback re the implants. I've done 4 laser sessions with my physio, and I'm now confident I'll avoid surgery. I've got a stretch and exercise regime which I do every day, and am now doing 'walking breaststroke' in the pool which really helps my pec muscles. She found a lot of muscle spasms which she's been working on with the laser, and I'm stretching them out with her exercises. The pain has pretty well gone away. We think/hope that the final swelling will go down once the muscles are healed and stop squeezing the implant. The left side, which was augmented, settled down after the first treatment. I'm sobered by the thought that the PS wanted to replace the implants, when it appears the problem was at least partially muscular all along. Doesn't really bear thinking about, does it!

You have no idea how much your message encouraged me to keep going with all this.

    Thanks and love, Pam xx

  • Thank you thank you Chris! I'm so grateful you took the time to reply. I've been feeling so desperate over the last few days since I saw the PS. I'm seeing my physio/lymph drainage masseur Monday week, so will talk to her about the laser. If she doesn't do it, my usual physio does, so I can go back to her. She is also very good. The last thing I want is more surgery, but I really want to get rid of the pain too. So now you've given me some hope. Love Pam xx
