Help - Any tips for Surgery?

Personally,I think chemo was harder than surgery.I had a lumpectomy and full node clearance in 2003.I think the node surgery was harder to recover from than the breast surgery.I was in Hospital for 3 days and came out with a drain in.I only needed the heavy painkillers for 3days or so.The drain came out a week later and that's when I got my pathology results.Maybe take button down the front pjs to hospital and a loose shirt for going home.You can't wear a bra for a few weeks - I wore singlets/camis.Keep the arm exercises up cos as you heal,the underarm area can be abit stiff and sore.I was back at work and driving after 3 or 4 weeks. Ask your breast care nurse to order a free Berlei post surgery bra for you- it's really comfy.As far as surgery goes,it's not too bad really.Hope you can rest and have help when you get home.Ask any questions and let us know how it all goes.I find taking slow deep breaths on the way to surgery helps to calm me.Sending best wishes and hugs,Tonya xx
