Flying high
As a treat for my family, we have organised a trip to the Gold Coast next month! Yippee! Kids can't wait to get me on the rollercoasters....and I am looking forward to the thrill too! This will involve a 5 hour flight from WA and just wondering if there are any tips or advice or any concerns that I need to know about.
In the last month I have finally got rid of the cording issue I experienced since my mastectomy last October - no issue with lymphodema but just wanting to make sure I stay on track.
Thanks ladies....Jen xx

Thanks Blossom,
Yes...have all intention of going on the rides (maybe only once for the extreme ones though - refer to Mona's reply!)
I guess maybe it could be my new motto of living life to the fullest - and my motto to my kids is "Never have regrets"...who know if/when we will ever get to the Gold Coast again!
Ha ha....even the giant drop! Will let you know how it goes......! And yes, hoping to forget all about the last 9 months and totally enjoy the sunshine and fun of visiting Qld for the first time!
Big hug...Jen x

Thanks Carol
Great to read your advice and the importance of always being aware of the possible problems that may occur.
I didn't even think about insect bites...or carrying even my shoulder bag on the affected side! Will try and get in the habit of changing sides.
Thanks again....take care - Jenny x
(p.s. Wow....can only imagine how hot that full torso garment would be! Enhance the hot flushes for sure!)

Thanks Robyn...we are sooo looking forward to it! My gorgeous hubby and kids need a well deserved break and this will be just fabulous!
Hopefully this will become the kids favourite as I'm over them nagging me about going back on a houseboat holiday we had a few years back! Gold Coast might be the new tune...lol!

We are so looking forward to coming to your lovely part of the world! Our home is down the bottom corner of WA - and we would really love some warm sunshine! Bring it on......
Great advice and will be sure to continue with stretches of the arm etc.

Hi Mona
Interesting to hear about the possible side effects of Tamoxifen on rollercoasters etc. I went on one in April that had us hanging upside down and extreme speed etc (The Abyss at Adventure World in Perth)...and I did notice the symotoms you described, but thought it was just me! I will try and stick to the less extreme ones....if my kids let me!

Thanks for you advice....and defo will enjoy these rollercoasters much more than the one we all had to go on by default!
I guess having had only 3 lymph nodes out should not cause any problems - I'm just a little concerned that it took so long for my cording to disappear I would hate to have any more issues with my arm.
Hope your arm is great now Deanne and everything else is wonderful for you!
Big hug, Jen x

Thanks Chris....I went and bought some insect repellent just incase - never even thought about that!
Have told my husband he will have to be the chief luggage carrier too - and also, will swap my handbag shoulder to the left side - great advice!

Hi Jen, my memory is a bit foggy on the matter but I remember my oncologist saying something about travel, tamoxifen and DVT. She did say traveling for 6 hours or more though so hopefully you should be okay with the 5 hour flight. I can't remember what I was told to do. Maybe you should call your oncologist just to make sure. Sorry my information is so vague. Hope you and your family have an a amazing time. Take care, Ingrid xx
