Expander/Stretcher - whatever you want to call it
I got home this afternoon after having my surgery yesterday and staying overnight in hospital.
The plastic surgeon said that the original surgeon who did the three surgeries in October last year, left me with a beautiful scar. Neat as a pin. Tight as a drum. No extra skin hanging around.
So the stretcher has been implanted now and I am on my way to having the reconstruction done.
What happens now is a trip to Mackay next week to have the area reviewed and the dressing changed.
Then after that I go another week and see them again so that they can check it all out.
This is all followed by the fortnightly trips to Mackay to have fluid pumped into the stretcher.
Prior to having the stretcher put in place, I was doing physio twice a week to loosen the skin AND to deal with a seroma.
The surgeon said that the seroma was empty (thanks to the physio) and he wants to watch that it does not "fill" again.
So the first step of a long journey has now been commenced.
Already (with just a stretcher), I can feel more like a woman....instead of having a concave dent, I have a "man" boob of a weightlifter. I very solid hard lump spread over an area.
