Effects of zoladex

Hi, I have just had a mastectomy after finding my 2nd breast cancer in the same breast. 1st time I had a lumpectomy followed by chemo and radiation and have been on tamoxifin. My oncologist wants me to go onto the zoladex injections. I had tried this last time but got aching joints. Please tell me if you have had any side effects with zoladex and if you then opted to have your ovaries removed.
Thanks

Hi I had two years on Zoladex injections and during that time had vaginal ultrasound regularly . Due for another in October.
For me the guy doing my ultrasound at my last visit he was very pleased as it showed my ovaries had shrunk. Yay! The things we get excited about.  Maybe you will have the same result.
As to side effects every second one I had a funny tummy for a day or two. Something I always had when menstruating.
Hope your experience is like mine beneficial
    Take care
  • I’m also having monthly zoladex injections and am having Exemestane.  I started my zoladex right after I finished chemo, and did not have any side effects, but when I started on Exemestane 10 weeks later (after finishing rads), the joint pains came.
  • Hi @Bella28 , I have been having Zoladex injections for the last 2 years. I definitely feel achey at times, esp first thing in the morning. But that could also be due to my other medication (Exemestane).
I have considered the whole ovaries removal thing, but feel like one major surgery is enough for the time being! A deciding factor might be how old you are, and how long you would need the injections for.
I think getting out and exercising has helped reduce the symptoms a little.
    Hope this helps.
