Double mastectomy
I have finished chemo and now face the decisions regarding my surgery.I have cancer in the right breast and positive lymph nodes on both sides. My surgeon has suggested a double mastectomy. It is my decision and I have decided to go ahead with it. I am now doubting myself, have I made the right desicion.

Great news indeed. Keep your diet as healthy as possible and take regular exercise, and you'll get through this for sure.

Hi traveltext, I am doing really well. I finished radiotherapy about a month a go now. I have healed up well AND I am NED :) Preventive treatment continues with herceptin and hormone therapy. So pleased to hear you are going well.

How are you now Lorraine? I'm 18 months post diagnosis for IBC and have never felt better.

Thank you Pam. I will take your advice and treat myself in these days leading up to surgery. I have got myself into a bit of a tiz, trying to get things done before my surgery. Cheers
Sign in to react to this post I don't think there's anyone who isn't terrified about the surgery. I was. White as a ghost when I went in, so I'm told. I had a single mastectomy and reconstruction 2 years ago. Have just had my annual scans done, and the ultrasounds are clear. It's actually a huge relief to know one boob has gone, and with it the risk of cancer returning on that side. I think that in the long term, you will be very relieved not to have that nasty little shadow sitting on your shoulder. And yes, ignore well meaning people who make you doubt your decisions. You have a medical team, and they are the only ones who know every detail of your cancer. Treat yourself well before June 5 - bubble baths, aromatherapy oils in a burner, a massage if you can, long walks, a good book, anything that distracts you. Best of luck. Pam xx

It can be really hard, especially when you have always valued someone's opinion but that doesn't mean you should follow their advice. You can give the information consideration and then choose your path. Hugs Maureen

Thank you all for your thoughtful replies. You have all set my mind at ease. I do feel better about my decision. I will be having my surgery on the 5th June. The idea of surgery really scares me. I will have to try not to think to much about it, if possible. xxx

Thanks Louise, just found out today that my surgery has been set the 5th June, a little earlier than I expected. Yes, I agree I do need to listen to my medical team and I will try not to pay to much attention to the opinions of others,

Yes, it is amazing how many people feel they need to give their advice. I know they are just wanting to help. I now find it easier not to discuss my condition and treatment with others, so there is no need for them to give their opinion, except on our forum, here I value everyone's opinion. Thank you Jane

You are right Mozzie, I shouldn't care about others opinions, most really do not have a clue what we are going through anyway. It is hard though, as their comments do make me doubt decision. Thank you Mozzie
