You know I almost did not post this blog because I felt so worn down from sounding like a cracked record that know one seemed to find of benefit.
I have read John Boyages 'Breast Cancer Taking Control' too. It is an excellent way to learn more about this disease. For me knowledge is power. It is a very emotional time when you are diagnosed with any cancer and it is so hard to control your fear and make decisions. Deciding to have a single or a bilateral mastectomy before you even know all the facts about your cancer might mean you are putting yourself through a lot more than you need to.
I'm glad that my surgeon took the time to explain that one step at a time was her recommendation. She has seen a lot of people feel differently once they know more and have had time to really understand their situation. You can always decide to have more surgery later but you can't rewind and do it differently once it's done.
It's a huge decision and you owe it to yourself to know as much as possible so you can be sure it is the right one for you.
I'm glad you feel informed and comfortable with your choice. Take care. Deanne xxx
