Biopsy by mammogram

I had my one year follow-up mammogram. Right breast all clear but now there's a new lump in my (previously healthy) left breast.
Doc said he'd book me in for a biopsy under mammorgram.
Considering the first mam hurt like hell - what is a prolonged mam gonna feel like?
Has anyone had this procedure and can describe it for me please.

  • WOW @JulieVT11 !!  I've never heard of Biopsy by Mammogram before Jax's post!!

    All the best, Jax!!
  • Hi Jax, that is very crappy news to receive.  I had 2 biopsy's done under mammogram on the same breast but in different locations so I was literally in the mammo machine for about 40 minutes.  Most painful part was them getting me in the right position and I'm not going to lie but it did hurt but it was bearable.  They get you in position take a scan and do measurements, inject the local anaeschetic and then do the biopsy.  The second biopsy was probably a bit easier as I was still a little bit numb.  Also I was lying down which is way better than the standing version.  I had already had a biopsy under ultra sound the same day so needless to say my poor boob was very bruised and sore for a few days.
  • @Jax1964 - I feel your concern ... I had a biopsy on my treated boob on Dec 21st - just scar tissue .....

Chances are the Doc meant to say 'biopsy by Ultrasound' as the US locates the exact spot & then the biopsy needle shot thru it (that's how mine have been done.)

    All the best, xxx
  • Big hug Jax. So sorry that there's something there, no matter what it turns out to be. K xox
