Another surgery 😞

Hi all,
I’m facing my 3rd surgery in less than 6 months. Margins were out by less than 2mm either side. To say I’m pissed is an understatement! But can’t risk leaving it. I was wondering if anyone has had local anaesthetic and/or sedation instead of general? I don’t recover well from GA.

Much love to you all on your journeys x

  • Hi, so sorry to hear that. I don’t recover well from sedation either, so I made a point if letting my anaesthetist know. She was great at doing extra, including extra monitoring of my brain to minimise how much she gave me, and also made sure they were very gradual with the post-surgery pain relief - which usually ads to the sedation. My surgeon also booked me overnight, even though my lumpectomy is usually a day surgery, so I had the time to recover. Don’t be afraid to speak up and let them know what you go through - I find they are glad to know so they can do everything possible for you.

    All the best.

  • That sucks Annabannana , sorry to hear. I also had three surgeries, the third being mastectomy. You do start to feel like an unwilling regular at the hospital! Hope your surgery goes/has gone well, with a speedy recovery 😊

  • Best wishes, my news today was surgery 3.  All the best for your outcome.

Hoping anaesthetic doesn't induce dementia ( sorry Black comedy,I'm nearly 80)

  • That's a real bummer that you need a 3rd surgery to get clear margins, Annabannana  :(   I'd be pretty pissed myself!

You could ask your surgeon about a 'twilight' sedation?  It isn't as deep as a general - if they do not recommend it, you could always ask why?

Take care & all the best xx
