Another Re-Excision or Mastectomy?

swisha Oh Swisha, thanks so much for your reply. You sound like you are doing so so well, which is good for me to hear & terrific for you. So you had all 3 grades of DCIS, is that unusual & how much of an area did yours span. I'm having a contrast MRI in a couple days to hopefully reveal more of the extent of the DCSI & surrounding tissue. Pathology shows its high grade with comedo necrosis. I wanted a lumpectomy but breast surgeon said the DCIS span is too large 48x55x66 but could be even larger when they get in there. I am considering an implant at time of surgery but that terrifies me as much as the mastectomy & is a bigger more complicated procedure. I really don't want to lose a breast & it's super hard to get my head around having a mastectomy when there is no knowing whether the DCIS will ever escape the duct. The treatment seems so extreme, so l'm hoping the contrast MRI will tell more of a story cos l am seriously struggling with this. I’m just being diagnosed with DCIS high grade in July. First, the surgeon offered me either lumpectomy or mastectomy with or without construction. I couldn’t decide by then. Then I opted for MRI and genetic testing to find out more prior to make my decision. MRI shown the area is quite extensive and almost 60mm. Genetic came back negative. And I am a size A. I did not want any further surgeries or complications in the future, I just want to get back to my life and look after my children and work. So I had my mastectomy done yesterday and now I’m home.
Welome to the blog, Car!! Golly Gosh, You've had some BIG decisions recently - but you did your homework & came up with your plan. Well done.
I hope you have a good recovery - just make sure you don't do 'too much, too quickly'! You'll probably still have drains attached? Just make haste slowly. I hope you have good support at home from family & friends xx
Have you been assigned a breast care nurse yet? They should be your first port of call for any queries .... (other than here!)
I'd suggest that you put your story in its own post, so that it doesn't get lost in this thread. I am sure the Mods could even move it across for you.
